William the Fisherman’s Ultimate Offshore Weapon.
A Complete Fit-Out by Auckland Outboard Workshop and HMB Marine Electrical for William the Fisherman’s new boat.
There is nothing quite like working on a brand-new boat. It is very satisfying laying it all out from scratch, knowing every single wire and bolt is engineered to work together perfectly.
When William the Fisherman from Wild North Addiction dropped his new hull into our Tamaki Marine Park workshop, it was a total blank canvas. The F17 Frewza vessel was wide open, just waiting for the ultimate outboard and electronics fitout. William’s goal was ambitious: he needed a turnkey, high-performance offshore package built specifically to conquer the rugged, legendary waters of the Three Kings Islands.
By combining the specialist skills of Auckland Outboard Workshop’s technicians with the electrical and electronic knowledge of the HMB Marine Electrical team, we tackled this project from start to finish under one roof. Thanks to that joint team effort, we designed, installed, and integrated every system to work in total harmony. From the very first bolt on the transom to all the electronics, lighting and autopilot, our guys handled every single detail, rigorously testing and tweaking to make sure it was ready for some serious blue-water action. (which is got within a few day of leaving the workshop!)
The Honda BF 100 & Precision Steering
For a brand-new boat heading offshore, the propulsion and steering systems have to be absolutely flawless. The mechanical crew at Auckland Outboard Workshop laid the groundwork
New Honda BF 100 Outboard: We mounted, rigged, and commissioned a brand-new Honda 100HP engine. It gives William the perfect mix of reliable power, quiet operation, and the awesome fuel economy which will help on those long offshore runs. Even after a few trips he is noticing the difference in the fuel economy.
Custom Fuel Infrastructure: We ran robust fuel lines with a filtration system completely from scratch, ensuring the new outboard gets clean, protected fuel even in rough seas.
Hydraulic Steering Integration: Because William wanted an autopilot, the standard mechanical steering setup was replaced with a heavy-duty hydraulic system, laying the essential mechanical foundation needed for helm automation.
Garmin Autopilot Integration: Connected to the boat’s new hydraulic steering, the Garmin Autopilot has transformed William’s on-water experience, with him describing it as an “absolute game-changer”. It is perfect for short-handed fishing, the system reliably holds course underway, giving him the freedom to safely step away from the helm, deploy lures, and manage the deck.
The Electronics -Package, Garmin ECHOMAP Ultra 2 125sv
With a blank dash to work with, HMB Marine Electrical team designed a clean, ergonomic, electronics layout using top-tier electronics supplied by Garmin. The high resolution Garmin 12” screen was flush-mounted into the new dash. This sunlight-readable network hub features split-screen capabilities, allowing William to monitor charts, radar, and multiple sonar feeds simultaneously. It comes with an advanced Ultra High-Definition transducer system, and the setup delivers photo-like clarity beneath and around the vessel that make it simple to distinguish target fish from dense structure. Plus, Navionics mapping with the detailed coastal mapping preloaded, William can pinpoint the exact drop-offs, reefs, and deep contours, making it way easier to hunt down and save the best fishing spots for future visits.
3. Lighting, Beats & A Bit of Bling
The HMB Marine Electrical techs also wired up a comprehensive, heavy-duty 12V system utilizing premium components from Narva and Fusion.
Narva Premium Lighting Package: Wired from scratch with safety in mind for early morning launches and overnight missions. This includes navigation lights, an ultra-bright bow spotlight, cockpit and under gunnel lighting, dedicated illumination for the bait tank and underwater lights on the transom which look great, but also attract the bait fish.
Fusion Entertainment System: You can't head out without some serious ‘beats’. The Fusion MS-RA210 system does the job, pumping crisp tunes through 6.5” cockpit speakers and a 10” subwoofer, complete with built-in speaker LED lights for a little razzamatazz!
Practical Power Outlets: Marine grade USB outlets at the helm to keep phones, cameras, and personal gear fully charged on extended trips.
Exceptional Workmanship for the Ultimate On-Water Experience
At the end of the day, what makes a complex fitout like this work so well isn’t just the premium gear, it’s the specialist installation and support behind it. Because our outboard mechanics and marine sparkies work side-by-side, we don't just bolt parts on; we build complete, reliable, integrated systems.
